BODY · PERCEPTION · SENSATION · MEMORY · SPACE · EXPERIENCE
HEE SUN JOO
Born in South Korea and adopted in France at the age of six months, I am currently based in Saint-Étienne.
With a master’s degree in visual arts, I pursue a multidisciplinary artistic practice through photography, painting, drawing, video, sound, and installation, as well as hybrid forms that combine several of these mediums.
My work explores the relationships between the body, perception, sensation, memory, space, and experience. Depending on the project, I am interested in the connections between people, places, and different forms of life, as well as in the phenomena of presence, transformation, and displacement.
My practice evolves across different forms and temporalities, ranging from images to more immersive and transdisciplinary installations. I place great importance on observation, intuition, and experience, and seek to create spaces where multiple levels of perception can intersect.
Through these various practices, I am interested in what lies between the visible and the invisible, the real and the imaginary, memory and sensation, here and elsewhere.
